My name is Laura Fox. I receiced a BS degree in Science and Special Education from Texas State 19 years ago. This is my second year in Bastrop. I previously taught in Smithville for 13 years and Lexington for 3 years before that. This is my 18th year of teaching. I have taught 6th grade science for 10 years now and I am still excited and enthusiatic to have the privilege to teach such a fascinating subject.
I have been taking students to the Austin Energy Regional Science Fair for over 10 years now. It is a thrillng and life changing experience for me and the students. I have had 3 students advance to the state level from regionals, 6 receive the Superintendent's award, several students receive the Women in Engineering awards, Discovery Channel awards, and many students that have won medals placing in thier designated divisions. I plan to continue attending the Austin Energy Regional Science Fair as long as I am teaching. I look forward to sharing the love and excitement for science with your child this year.
On a more personal note, I live in the Lost Pines near the town of Smithville, Texas with my husband Jeff Fox. We have a son, Jeremiah Fox, 4 cats, and 1 Amazon parrot. We enjoy running and bicycling on a regular basis. We compete in both running and bicycling events. The longest running competitions we have been involved in were 2 marathons. The longest bicycling events are several century rides (100 miles ) and 1, 1 day 120 mile ride up 3 mountain passes in Colorado called the "Triple Bypass". We feel that challenging ourselves in these activities helps us keep our lives focused.
