Stephen Autrey named Bastrop Intermediate principal

Currently the assistant principal at Bastrop Middle School, Autrey has nearly 25 years of

education experience, including 13 years with Bastrop ISD and three years as a campus

administrator in the district.

“I am honored,” Autrey said. “I came to Bastrop 15 years ago through the coaching world never

intending to permanently settle here, but this place became my home. I'm proud of our

community and our schools, and I look forward to continuing the great work and improvements

that are happening here in Bastrop ISD.”

Autrey earned his Bachelor of Science in Math from Mary Hardin Baylor and his master’s

degree in educational administration from Lamar University. He was a math teacher and coach

at Bastrop High School and Austin Akins before becoming serving as secondary math

curriculum specialist for Bastrop ISD.

“Having Stephen Autrey accept the principalship at Bastrop Intermediate School allows us to

keep a dedicated and skilled administration in our district, while providing that campus with the

stability it needs,” Bastrop ISD Superintendent Steve Murray said. “Stephen has served the

students of BISD for many years and we look forward to him doing so for many more years to

come.”

Autrey has served as a math department chair and coordinated math curriculum, as well as

developed assessments and curriculum and led staff professional development.

Bastrop Intermediate School serves more than 700 students in the eastern portion of Bastrop

ISD. Bastrop ISD is located 35 minutes southeast of Austin and serves nearly 10,000 students

from the communities of Bastrop, Cedar Creek, Red Rock, Rockne, Paige and other rural areas

of Bastrop County.
